Ordinary Angels – Based on a True Story

I saw ads on TV for the Ordinary Angels movie awhile back and then it kind of just went away. I didn’t know if it got delayed, or if I just missed it. Getting the email from Momentum Influencers about previewing it for my blog, I was so excited. It looked like a great movie and I definitely wanted to see it. Since it was based on a true story, that got me even more interested. It was nice to see Hilary Swank in a movie like this. Great story and really makes you think.

The movie was one that I would recommend, however I am going to be totally honest, and say that it’s one I would say is better for young adults, and adults.  With the drinking scenes, it would be something to maybe talk about with a younger crowd, but I don’t feel that it would be suited for children.  I know the company was saying that they wanted to get a faith-based movie out, and try to make it as popular as the secular types.  In my honest opinion, most of the story was pretty secular.  I know that it’s about how God can work through tragedy, and provide miracles when needed, but the main story just didn’t catch me as very religious.

Being based on a true story, I was amazed to see what this family actually went through and endured.  That being said, I wish there was more that had to do with the bible, etc.  Did the main character actually come back to the Lord, after questioning what happened in his life?  Was the return to church at the end a way of showing he did that?  I know that the Pastor allowed the helicopter to land in their parking lot (God bless him for that), but did he even lead a prayer time?  I don’t know, there’s just a lot more that could have been done to put this movie a bit more on the faith-based side.

Don’t get me wrong, again I loved the story, the actors were amazing and seeing how God can work through simple people is definitely going to leave a mark on some.  I just wish that they could have brought more into it that showed how you could talk to God, get guidance, etc.  It’s definitely one that I would recommend, but not necessarily to those wanting only faith-based movies.  Watch the preview below, and let me know in the comments, what you think.
