When we were finished watching the movie, I’ll be completely honest and say I was kind of shocked, and upset. I’m used to reviewing movies from the company I work with, that I don’t have to worry about watching with family, etc. This one is definitely NOT one for those with younger kids. You think the monkey is adorable and it would be great, but there is some language that is very inappropriate…and most of it comes from the Grandma!! There is a party scene in the movie, that I know kind of had to be in there to go along with what would happen afterwards, etc. but they were drinking and had questionable outfits on…I was very disappointed.
To be completely honest, and forgive me if it’s not beneficial to the movie company, but this is not one I would recommend. Some of the scenes, like I said, are completely inappropriate and could have been done in a much nicer way to be able to still have this as a movie that you could feel comfortable taking your family to. I’m tired of this world thinking that a lot of this is just okay, and just part of the “norm.” Well, for me that’s not true, and I think it’s disrespectful and disheartening!
Like I said, some of the movie was great. The actors did a great job, and it was nice seeing the disabled community represented. I just don’t care for some of the content and this would not be a film that I would buy later, or go to watch again.
About GIGI & NATE:
Gigi & Nate is the story of Nate Gibson, a young man whose life is turned upside down after he suffers a near-fatal illness and is left a quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi – a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. Although she is trained to assist Nate with his basic needs, Gigi helps Nate find what he needs most of all: hope.
Gigi & Nate is a story of hope, of overcoming the obstacles life throws at us, reveling in the art of faith and perseverance. This encouraging and inspirational film is based on a true story!
“As much as this is about a monkey and this kid, I think it’s about overcoming difficulties and things that you think are impossible that you’ll never come back from. I want the audience to feel moved, I want them to feel energized,” he says. “I want them to feel everything I felt when I read the script for the first time. It’s a rollercoaster on four wheels. It’s about family and the difficulties of losing something you love.” -Charlie Rowe (Nate in GIGI & NATE)
