News broke today that Kennywood’s parent company, Palace Entertainment, is removing the Log Jammer after this season!

The Log Jammer has been a customer favorite since it debuted back in 1975. (10 years before I was born…making the Log Jammer 42 years old!) It was the parks first multi-million dollar attraction. This year, 2017, marks the Log Jammers last year of taking people around in its great logs.

I’m rather upset at this decision. While parks do need to grow and evolve, it’s hard to see something that I’ve been riding since a child go away. I’m one of those people who aren’t big fans of water rides when I’m not at a water park. The squishy shoes and socks kind of do it for me. Which is why I love the Log Jammer so much. Just the right amount of wetness for a day of walking around in the sweltering heat.

I can’t help but think….why are they getting rid of the Log Jammer when they still have that terrible and awful Garfield’s nightmare? That was probably the biggest controversy since the park was sold off a few years ago. Before Garfield’s Nightmare took over the creepy Old Mill stood in its place. It offered “terror” in the middle of the summer. I loved it.

The final drop for the Log Jammer will be this weekend, September 16 and 17. I’m a bit sad that I will be missing it. I unfortunately have to work. If you are a fan of this old ride, be sure you get in there and get your last ride before it’s torn down.
