Pre-Wedding Day Maid Of Honour Duties

source

Has your sister or your best friend asked you to be her Maid of honour? Being chosen as a maid of Honour is both a privilege and a responsibility noting that you will the bride’s prime support for the entire wedding - during, before, and after.

When a bride asks you to be her maid of honour, it means that she trusts you with the considerable amount of responsibility expected from one with the title. Indeed, it’s not just the glamorous gown and the pretty bouquet on the day of the wedding but there are other duties for the maid of honour even before the big day. Traditionally, brides choose their sister, or their closest female friend, or someone whom they trust who can withstand the stresses and pressures of such.

Indeed, the tasks of the maid of honour start even before the wedding day itself. Sometimes, even before the engagement, the prospective maid of honour is already part of the plans of the couple. Sometimes the groom-to-be will consult on which rings to buy. And when they have procured the perfect diamond engagement ring from a trusted jeweller such as The Diamond Jewellery Studio in Brisbane, the maid of honour may also be asked to assist in conceptualising the proposal.

Once the successful proposal is done and a lady is officially donned the title of maid of honour, the task of officially assisting the bride begins. Check out this list of maid of honour duties that are expected from you:

Before The Wedding

1. Assisting the bride in wedding planning

Most brides will be able to handle the wedding preparations by themselves or they may delegate the tasks to a professional wedding planner. Some brides though will unintentionally be asking a lot from their maids of honour during the wedding planning process. These favours may include deciding on the colour motif, accompanying her to gown fittings and choosing the dresses for the bridesmaids, helping in putting together the invitations, and even going to cake tasting appointments and choosing flavours. Some brides may even just want you there for emotional support and probably as a sounding board for their thoughts. Whatever need she may have of you to have her dreams transformed into amazing creations, the maid of honour should be more than happy to oblige.

2. Be in charge of the bridal party

As the maid of honour, you are also consequently designated as the chief of the bridal party. You will serve as the official point person for wedding-related questions, not just for the bridal party but for the guests as well.

You also have to organise the bridesmaids so that they know what is expected of them and so that they can also assist you in fulfilling your tasks such as helping to coordinate accommodations and transportation for the bridal party and hiring their hair and makeup services.

3. Organise the bridal shower and bachelorette party

Indeed, organising the bridal shower is considered one of the most important duties of a maid of honour. Since this is a big job, planning an interesting party for the bride will be easier with the help of her bridesmaids. You can brainstorm on the theme and then delegate the responsibilities for booking the venue and decorating the place, sending out invitations and preparing souvenirs, ordering the food, and hosting the event to the rest of the bridal party.

These are just a few of the tasks you are responsible for as a maid of honour prior to the wedding. You have other responsibilities during and after the wedding ceremony, so good luck!
