Hola chicas y chicos!

After city, nature and countryside, I am going to take you to the beach! I miss the beach so much and I was totally in a mood to post about my lovely holidays in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic two years ago! I still have Canada and Hungary pending, but my exotic holidays convinced me more. This was my second vacation with Voyage Privé, since we made very good experience with this travel agency (may you remember our holidays on the Maldives).

From Switzerland, we could easily change in Dusseldorf, Germany for a direct flight to the Dominican Republic. Arriving at Punta Cana airport, make sure to collect the immigration and customs declaration form for your arrival. No visa is required (for Swiss citizen), however, you need to pay US$10.00 for your tourist card (available at the airport). One of the reason, why I love to book at Voyage Privé is, because A) you will get special goodies or upgrades and B) because of the transportation, which is almost always included. They make sure to organize all transfers between airport to the hotel and back. We had a voucher, which we could use at the transportation hub. We stayed 7 nights at the Sunscape Dominican Beach Punta Cana, a lovely resort, just next to the beach. I honestly have to say that we did nothing else than; eat, sleep, relax and repeat every step! A guy showed us some activities, but we didn’t do any of them. There is an area (Samana), where you can go and see the filming location of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. However, it was around 4 – 5 hours by car from our stay. Furthermore, we never left the resort, because Punta Cana is not very save for women, so we didn’t want to risk anything. Ah and make sure to take enough sun cream with you, cause it is veeeeeery expensive! It was literally like up to four/five times more expensive than in our country! Overall, the resort was great, the pool as well the beach. We had an amazing breakfast buffet and a great selection of restaurants for dinner (more details follows in the upcoming post). The room was heavenly, but we sometimes had really bad room service (from not making the bed properly or they forgot to leave any new towels).

Currency
The currency of the Dominican Republic is the Dominican Perso. You cannot export or import the currency, so make sure to take cash (I prefer US Dollars) with you, which you can change to pesos as soon as you arrive. Some shops and restaurants accept US dollars and Euros. 62 Dominican Perso is around 1 Swiss Franc / 1.06 US dollars (2020).

Adapter
In the Dominican Republic the power plugs and sockets are of type A and B (same type as Japan). The standard voltage is 110 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz.

The national language is Spanish!
