Kerala Backwaters - a preview of houseboat living

As we plan our next Trip I felt compelled to look back at our last long trip, to Kerala. And especially our stay on the backwaters. We spent 2 nights floating along the canals and rivers near Alley and it was perfect. I was fascinated seeing just how much is lived on or along the waterways. From shopping to transport to washing and cleaning, you can just float along seeing life progressing at a wonderfully steady pace.

The scenery is gorgeous, beautifully green. The colours are stunning, be it houses, boats or clothing. And you get to see animals and birds just living their lives among the rice paddies.

Below are just. few of the pictures I took, I just wanted to give you a feel for the trip. It is a once in a lifetime experience that I would recommend to anyone! We slept, read, ate (onboard chef!) and stared out across the water from our houseboat (a converted rice boat). Torrential rain didn't even dampen our spirits, we just snacked and relaxed.
