Greece - Athens - Garyfallo Kanela (Γαρύφαλλο Κανέλα) for Gorgeous Homecooking

Our second airBnB in Athens recommended Garyfallo Kanela for proper Greek food so we decided to check it out for lunch after overheating at the Acropolis. And yummy it was! Totally home-cooking-style and tasty, we would go back for sure. We saw dishes there we hadn't seen in any other restaurants yet in Greece and really enjoyed our laid-back lunch.

Our spoils:

I get the feeling that Garyfallo Kanela cooks up some batches of food in the morning and serves until they have sold out. Closed in the evenings (we found this out the night before when we tried to go there for dinner!)

You get to pick from various vats of tasty looking meals:

Here is what we chose from Garyfallo Kanela's huge offering:

We couldn't decide on just one meal each and luckily Garyfallo Kanela does half portions too, so we could both pick a meal and then share half a portion of the stuffed vegetables. You could pick from various different veggies and this gorgeous red pepper caught my eye so I went with that rather than a tomato or a courgette. It came with some potatoes which we didn't end up eating due to the huge amount of food we had ordered :)

I went for a roast herbed Greek chicken with the most gorgeous lemon roast potatoes. Sooooo good.

Check out the pepper, so nicely roasted, it was so sweet and flavourful. There is nothing quite like the Southern European vegetables, and as peppers go, my favourite are these long pointy ones. Very common in Italy and sweeter than the usual ones.

The pepper was stuffed with a super tasty herbed rice, including for sure mint and probably dill I think. Lovely bursts of that fresh mintiness through the rice.

This bread was amazing, we took one piece home as we had far too much food but it was flaky and crispy and chewy. Nom.

Hubby went for a beef stew with more spuds, courgettes, carottes etc. He was rather happy but the serving was rather huge :) Herbs through it again like most dishes in Greece, a lot of dill in this one.

Honestly mine was amazing. The potatoes roasted with the chicken and a ton of lemon were stunning, I will totally be trying to recreate these. Need some firm waxy spuds and oregano, olive oil and loads of lemon juice I believe. To be tried!

With a couple of beers, not bad for 24 euros right?
