London - Twickenham - Prince Albert Thai Kitchen for Authentic Thai Food

Friends of ours in London live in Teddington and one of the traditions when we visit (we often stay with them) is to go for drinks and then to another pub, but not for more drinks specifically (though they of course feature) but for authentic yummy Thai food. Yup, you read it correctly, Thai food in a pub in London. I present to you - Thai at the Albert.

The Prince Albert Thai Kitchen is yummy I must say, we have been a few times now but the previous times my pictures sucked (some of them are further down this post) but we recently went back and I took advantage of having my camera with me to take some more alluring pictures.

As I said, it is still a pub so drinks do still feature. Their house dry white is perfectly nice (I think it was a Pinot Grigio) and they have a selection of beers for the boys.

I do love that it is a proper pub with the drinks that come with it, with the variety you need, and they just happened to hand their pub kitchen over to a Thai family!

We may have over ordered for just 5 of us.... but there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try and we just couldn't (I say we, I might me "I") stop adding dishes :) Note that they will wrap it up for you to take home if you make our mistake. But then I hate to call it a mistake as it was yummy!

Our friend M cannot have a Thai meal without prawn crackers so they featured. Fresh and crisp (I tried a bit of one to be able to have an opinion but prawns just aren't my thing - like all seafood really.... and most meats!).

We got the spring rolls which are nice and fresh also inside, they are veggie and I liked the good hit of cabbage in them.

Thai fish cakes. I liked the fresher sauce they came with and used that on my veggie options :)

This made my year - OK, I might be exaggerating, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE larb gai - and this tasted totally authentic. A huge hit of chilli, intoxicating kaffir lime leaf slices and juice, the grit of the ground rice and the pungency of the raw onion plus the gorgeous chilli on top. LOVED it. So so so so happy! :)

Love!

We also ordered the fried tofu which a bit less impressive to be honest. Fine but nothing special, I had hoped it would be more like I make it with black pepper and salt crust.

G fancied pandan chicken as it isn't something you see so often in Europe and he was happy :)

You see it a lot in Singapore as pandan is quite prevalent in the Malay peninsula.

On to the mains, and K ordered a good one here with this dish. We all loved the black pepper oyster sauce chicken served sizzling with onions and peppers. YUM YUM YUM.

This was another huge hit! These noodles were insane! Chewy and soft and slightly sticky, with crunch from the veggies - chicken Pad Kee Mao with gorgeous dark soy sauce bringing a huge savoury hit. So addictive - easily the first dish to have been devoured by us all. Sooooooooo amazingly good. I do miss the fresh noodles we used to get in Singapore.

We got a couple of chicken curries, a Penang and a Red curry. Perfectly nice though I would have liked more heat.

A mixed veg as you should always eat your vegetables!

And a Thai style trout which G found tasty but confusing as a fish to treat with the ginger etc. Nice though!

A quick table shot.

And here are the (less good) pictures from the previous visit - again the stir fried veggies with oyster sauce and egg tofu.

Pad Thai.

Stir fried beef with veggies (bamboo shoots, straw mushrooms, spring onions...)

Chicken with cashew nuts.

Curries.

And here is the menu for the Thai at the Albert - great food guys!
