Historic Clavadal House Restoration

Clavadal House, Davos

Krähenbühl Architekten Studio took a contemporary witness to the historical development of Clavadal in Davos. With parts of the House dating back to the Walsers and the original settlement of the area, Krähenbühl used modern solutions where necessary to preserve the house’s character while modernising its interior.

In some areas up to four layers of flooring had to be removed before the original flooring was uncovered, sanded and oiled. This is just one example of how the original features of the house were revealed, restored and preserved. Confining the work to the interior of the house, the architects safeguard the important historical features of the house, like the south facing balcony.
