My Top Essential for Frizz-Free Waves

My Hair hasn't been touched by heated styling tools in decades. I used to spend hours each day trying to straighten my crazy hair until finally I embraced my stubborn, frizzy waves, and I've never looked back. I mean, why would you spend hours fighting your hair's texture, when with the right styling products, you can have gorgeous waves in ten minutes, even during the humid summer months.

Though, when I say the right products, I mean like five at least. We're talking leave-in conditioner, oil, mousse, hairspray, and sometimes pomade. But it's totally worth it to me if it helps me achieve smooth waves with zero styling tools.

Now this advice is for ladies with thick, frizzy, naturally wavy hair like mine. Someone with more straight hair would need tools to achieve curls; and someone with thin, fine hair wouldn't want to condition as heavily as I do.

That brings me to my biggest essential for taming the summer frizz, and that product is simple - conditioner. A long time ago, during a trip to Kansas City, I got my hair cut and styled at a nice salon at The Plaza Shopping Center. And this stylist told me something that I have remembered all this time. He said, "The more conditioner you use, the more it will weigh down your curls." While he meant it as advice on what NOT to do, I secretly thought yay, I'm going to condition the hell out of my hair so I can finally control this frizzy mess on top of my head.

I always, always use a leave-in conditioner before I style, and once a week I like to use a deep conditioning treatment, like coconut oil. For everyday care, I use a conditioning shampoo and conditioner. I have noticed over the years that products with an oil like coconut or argan oil are very effective and really help smooth frizz. I've been using the Irresistible Me Liquid Gold Pure Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner this summer, and I love how it smooths and adds shine too. There are a lot of products out there now with oils, but pay close attention to the labels. If the ingredient is far down on the list, then there isn't much in the product. The Irresistible Me label shows argan oil more than halfway up on the ingredient list, so you know it's worth the cost. And while I wouldn't recommend oil or heavy leave-in conditioners for all hair types, this daily shampoo and conditioner by Irresistible Me is perfect for all hair types.

What are some ways you deal with the summer humidity when it comes to your hair?
