There are two kinds of people - those who cling to the Summer months and wish they would last longer, and then there are those who welcome pumpkin spice lattes, falling leaves, and boots regardless of the temperature. I am totally the latter, especially now that I'm with someone who loves Fall just as much as I do...and he loves it when I wear my boots.:) Pictured: Cartonnier Eve Velvet Blazer
Once the big fall fashion issues hit the newsstands, I no longer care what the weather channel or the calendar says; I'm totally over summer. Here are some ways to dip your toes into the fall fashion season with some classic transitional pieces.
LONGER LENGTHS - You can still pull off a summer dress, weather permitting, but as we near the fall months, a midi or maxi seems more appropriate. And it's easy to throw on a jacket and swap out the sandals for ankle booties for a head-to-toe fall look. Pictured: Maria Grazia Panizzi Carvina Maxi Dress
ANKLE BOOTS - As I just mentioned, ankle boots are a great way to transition your summer dresses into the beginning of fall, and they're perfect for when it's still too warm for tall riding boots.
FALL DENIM - I live in jeans all year long, but if you tend to wear short jean shorts during summer, you can start to incorporate jeans or cropped denim, or swap out your breezy summer skirts for a jean skirt. It's also a great way to transition some of your summer blouses. Pair them with skinny jeans and pumps, and pair cropped boyfriend jeans with a pair of ankle booties. EFFORTLESS LAYERS - The chilly mornings and evenings that come with fall can be hard to dress for when the afternoons can still be quite warm. Layers are always the answer. And there are so many cute ways to layer; whether it be a leather jacket, a blazer, or a cozy cardigan. Pictured: Plenty by Tracey Reese Geometric Poncho
I'll cover each of these trends in detail later, as they each have their own special style year after year, but in general these are each a classic trend for transitioning to fall. What are some of your favorite pieces to wear as the summer comes to an end?
