Tropical depression "Domeng" may be a potential danger to Northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Wednesday.
Moreover, PAGASA said there is a chance Domeng will merge with a low-pressure area (LPA) and may make landfall Thursday night or early Friday.
"Kaunting-kaunti lang ang tsansang lalakas ito. Ang isang scenario, maaring mag-merge sa isang naunang low-pressure area at yan maaaring magbigay ng sapat na lakas at magiging tropical storm tio (The chances of its intensifying by itself are remote for now. But one scenario is that it will merge with a nearby low-pressure area in northern Luzon and become a tropical storm)," PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio early Wednesday.
For now, she said, the weather disturbance is still too far to affect any part of the country.
As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, Domeng was estimated at 460 km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum winds of 45 kph near the center.
It is forecast to move northwest at 11 kph.
In its 11 p.m. Tuesday advisory, PAGASA said Domeng accelerated slightly as it continued to move toward northern Luzon.
Domeng is forecast to be 430 km north of Virac, Catanduanes or at 220 km east of Aparri, Cagayan Thursday evening; and 160 km north of Aparri, Cagayan Friday evening.
On the other hand, PAGASA said the LPA’s location was estimated at 670 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes.
"Eastern and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,"
PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Angat Dam fell by 0.01 meter as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, to 163.33 meters from 163.34 meters Tuesday. This is still way below the critical mark at 180 meters.
