Using Headlines to Drive Targeted Traffic To Your Site

Have you ever wondered why some Marketing tactics just don’t seem to get you the targeted Traffic that you know you deserve? You sit and watch a competitor’s online traffic grow and soar and you’re just not quite sure how they do it. Marketing should work the same everywhere, right?  Well, the short answer is "no".
Internet Marketing is not rocket surgery. (nor is it brain science! :P ) There are some simple concepts that many online marketers fail to recognize. Focusing on a business that brings targeted traffic, high conversion rates and plenty of sales should be a marketer’s goal. But how do you get the traffic and encourage the readers to stay? Well, the first thing is… HEADLINES!

First of all, people want to find a solution to a problem and they want to find it FAST. So let them know in the headline exactly what you are offering them. If it is clear and direct, uninterested people will click away but consumers interested in your product will read further! The headline should always include valuable benefits for the customer. With recent studies indicating that users decide whether (or not) to stay on a site within 8 seconds or less, well-written headlines are critical. Remember, we are looking for targeted traffic that is interested in our information, products or services. The others can leave the site, but you want to make sure that your content is actually read by your target audience and not hidden behind some boring headline.

Headlines say it all

Using a headline to grab attention is one of the simplest, yet most effective marketing tactics available to increase and maintain traffic on your site. People have a chance to quickly know if they need to read further. Instead of clicking away from your site, they’ll be clicking through to find out more information.

Always try to follow a headline with another fact or value-added benefit of the product or service. Keep website visitors moving through your content by including important information in every sentence of your posting. Don’t use teasers that make them feel they have to keep searching for what’s important. Be up-front and direct about the information you are providing.

Market the benefits and value

The headline is the best place to start marketing the benefits of the product. It’s also the best way to attract search engines that are seeking websites based on keywords used by online users. When the headline includes the words that potential customers are most likely to search for, the search engines will reward you by bringing more visitors to your website. This means that if you have a product that promotes weight loss, do NOT use the Headline, “THE ACME SYSTEM”. Although this might make you feel good since you can see your product or company's name in the headlines, but it doesn't do so well in driving traffic.  Instead use, “Lose Weight Fast and Easy with the ACME SYSTEM!” Why? Well, it sounds more intriguing, that’s for sure. But the real motive behind using that headline is because the search engines will pick up on the Keywords that are in the title. If you do your keyword research, you might find that picking the right headline might land you on the first page of Google overnight! For more tips on how to choose the right Keywords for your business and use them to climb the search engine’s results, read the posts on the keyword research on my blog.
