Seth Godin offers 3,000 review copies of Linchpin for Acumen donors

Seth Godin has teamed up with the Acumen Fund to offer a unique social marketing campaign for the charity.  Seth is offering to send 3,000 advance review copies of his newest book, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?, to be released in January to anyone willing to make a $30 or greater donation to the Acumen Fund.  In an announcement on his blog, Godin stated,

"The first 3,000 people who make a donation to the Acumen Fund (at least $30) get one at my expense. The money you pay goes directly to Acumen, you get the fun of making a donation and get a tax deduction before the end of the year, and I figure out which of my readers most want a copy of my book."
The Acumen Fund "exists to help end poverty by changing how the world addresses it. We do this in two ways. We invest patient capital to identify, strengthen and scale business models that effectively serve the poor. And we champion and spread this approach as an effective complement to traditional aid, which can create dependence, or pure market approaches, which can bypass the actual needs of the poor."

The marketing move not only offers Seth Godin's extensive base of fans a chance to preview his newest book, but will assure that the Acumen Fund receives $90,000 in online donations in the coming weeks.  For my part, I believe that the marketing effort will not only serve to create a buzz for Godin's newest release, but also demonstrates the value that a strategic Social Marketing and Online Outreach plan can add to a non-profit organization.
