7 Ideas for Repurposed Doors

It’s no secret we’re passionate about barn doors here at Rustica HQ, but one thing you might not know is how much we love the stories behind Repurposed Doors. Maybe it’s the passion behind an object given second life in a new setting that appeals to us, or the history connecting the past, present and future, or the eco-friendly quality of it. Whatever the reason, we love it and hope this trend lasts!

We are excited to share with you a new recurring series where we share some of our favorite repurposed doors. Here are three of our current favorites we think you’ll adore.

1. The charming Cedar Hill Farmhouse found this ancient set of doors in disrepair and saw their potential. The French doors were lovingly restored and converted to Sliding Barn Doors for a Country French themed home office with our Arrow Kingship Hardware.
2. Libraries have a bit of cherished reverence in the memories of childhood, and when Rachel Leavitt found this set of library doors at a rummage sale, she salvaged them. After some TLC, they hang in her home as a pair of elegant, bi-parting sliding doors. Image from @rachelleavittdesign on Instagram.
3. This is less of a found door and more a reclaimed wood door project, but it’s worth sharing all the same. @jonthorburn used reclaimed lumber from a neighboring barn to make a client’s door. The wood even had stenciling that matched the initials of the client’s name.

Here are some finds that we’d love to see converted to sliding barn doors.

4. A beautiful, rustic window was converted to a door in this minimalist Scandinavian home. The modern and vintage made for such balanced, welcoming design.  Image via Hus&Hem
5. We’ve all see the black trimmed french doors and iron doors cropping up on design feeds and our Instagram accounts, so it’s no surprise one made it onto our list. Here is our favorite take on iron doors from Portellairon Doors. We’d love to see someone tackle the sliding barn door version of this!
6. Tall wooden french doors via The Snug. Incorporate traditional architecture into your home that’s making a trendy comeback with a classic French design. This antique pair is breathtaking.
7. Glass doors for this heavenly pantry via @designchic  It’s practically perfect in every way, with the rolling ladder and dreamy shelving. Pantries are still one of the best places to put barn doors because of their space saving nature. This one would be a stunner.

What do you think? Are you as crazy about repurposed doors as we are? Please share your favorites in the comments below! Or submit your favorites online to our website and we’ll use them in our next feature.
