In India, there’s a growing issue with job scams, and a recent case in Chandigarh highlights the problem. A man named Navin Gupta lost over ₹6 lakh to a Fake Job offer he found on various job websites.

According to a report in HT, Mr. Gupta posted his resume on multiple job search sites. On June 22, he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from a national media organization, offering him a job. The caller asked for ₹6,500 as an interview fee, and Mr. Gupta paid it, believing the offer was real.

However, he was then asked to make more payments for different reasons, including courses, document verification, medical exams, and IT training. In the end, he got a fake job offer letter. After losing over ₹6.4 lakh, he reported the incident to the authorities, and a cybercrime case has been filed.

To protect yourself from Fake Job Offer Scam, remember these key points:

1. Use trusted job portals like LinkedIn, Naukri.com, and Indeed for job applications.
2. Verify job offers by researching the person offering the job and the company they claim to represent. A simple Google search can confirm a company’s existence.
3. Be cautious about sharing personal information, including your name and phone number, and only provide it on reputable websites.
4. Never send money to an unfamiliar bank account, and don’t share your banking details with anyone. Legitimate companies don’t ask for payment for job opportunities.
