Shraddha Kapoor has expressed her keen interest in taking on the role of Lata Mangeshkar in a biographical film. Interestingly, the late and legendary singer happens to be her grandaunt.

Shraddha expressed her desire to play Lata.

At a recent fan event, someone asked Shraddha whose life story she’d like to be a part of. She replied, “I’d love to step into the shoes of Lata Mangeshkar. It’s a big dream, but who knows?”

Well, it turns out it’s not that far-fetched because Shraddha is actually related to Lata Mangeshkar. She has a strong bond with the legendary singer, which lasted until Lata’s passing last year.

Shraddha’s maternal grandfather, Pandit Pandharinath Kolhapure, is Lata’s first cousin. So, that makes Shraddha’s mother, Shivangi Kolhapure, and her actress-sister, Padmini Kolhapure, Lata’s nieces.

Lata has sung some of Padmini’s most famous songs, like “Yeh Galiyan Ye Chaubara” from Raj Kapoor’s 1982 romantic movie “Prem Rog.” Asha Bhosle, Lata’s sister, has also lent her voice to Padmini’s popular tunes, such as “Poochho Na Yaar Kya Hua” from Nasir Hussain’s 1981 musical “Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai.” In an interesting twist, Asha even played Padmini’s mother in her acting debut in Mahesh Kodiyal’s 2013 film “Mai.

So, here’s the surprise: even Shraddha’s dad, the veteran actor Shakti Kapoor, is remotely related to Lata Mangeshkar! It’s a bit mind-boggling when you think about it.

Shraddha has spent years learning singing from Lata and has even lent her voice to songs like “Galliyan” in the 2014 action thriller “Ek Villain,” “Do Jahaan” in the 2014 film “Haider,” “Sab Tera” in the 2015 action thriller “Baaghi,” “Tere Mere Dil” in the 2016 musical “Rock On 2,” and “Phir Bhi Tumko Chahungi” in the 2017 romantic movie “Half Girlfriend.”

Keep an eye out for Shraddha in her next project, “Stree 2,” a horror comedy directed by Amar Kaushik. It’s the sequel to their 2018 box-office hit.
