Photographer Exposes the Struggle of Getting Paid

A freelance photographer from Hawaii has shared her frustration of chasing clients for overdue payments in a viral TikTok video.

Roxy Facer, who specializes in lifestyle and travel photography, posted a clip of herself calling a client on a burner phone to ask them why they have not paid their invoice.

The video, which has been viewed over 2.8 million times, shows Facer politely confronting the client, who gives various excuses for not paying, such as being busy, having to fire staff, and not receiving Facer’s emails.

Facer captioned the video with “Nothing more empowering than begging people to pay you what they owe you” and added the hashtag #freelanceproblems.

The video sparked a lot of sympathy and support from other freelancers and creatives, who shared their own stories of dealing with late or non-paying clients.

Some also offered advice on how to avoid such situations, such as requiring a contract, a deposit, or full payment before delivering the work.

Facer said she decided to make the video to raise awareness of the challenges that freelancers face when trying to get paid for their work. She said she has been freelancing for over six years and has encountered many clients who either pay late, pay less than agreed, or do not pay at all.
