Building collapsed in Lagos, One dies, three hospitalised

At Number 5 Fanny Street, Ita-Faaji, Lagos Island, the balcony of a three-story building collapsed, resulting in at least one fatality and three injuries.

According to an eyewitness, “The incident occurred at about 3.30 pm when there was a partial collapse of a three-storey balcony in which the second-floor balcony caved in.

“In the process, unfortunately, a female passerby was hit by the falling debris of the collapse and died as a result of the effect.

“Three other victims suffered different degrees of injuries and we’re rushed to hospital for treatment.”

Director, Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Magaret Adeseye, who confirmed the development through one of the service spokesmen, Mr. Sakiru Amodu, said the injured victims were responding to treatment as of press time.

Meanwhile, emergency responders who rushed to the scene have cordoned off the scene to prevent a secondary incident and ensure the safety of residents.

As of press time, 8.30 p.m., the rescue operation was ongoing to clear the debris as well as evacuate the occupants of the building.
