African counterterrorism summit to be opened in Abuja by Tinubu

The African Counter-Terrorism Summit will commence in Abuja on Monday, April 22, with President Bola Tinubu in attendance.

A high-level African counterterrorism summit with the theme “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism” will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, from April 22–23, with assistance from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

With an emphasis on the significance of African-led and African-owned solutions, the summit aims to strengthen multilateral counterterrorism cooperation and redefine the international community’s collective response to terrorism in Africa.

In order to agree on specific strategic priorities and actions to combat this scourge, the summit will offer a forum for reviewing the scope and nature of the terrorist threat on the continent, according to a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity.

In order to counter the complex danger of terrorism in Africa, it will also promote stronger regional cooperation, strengthening the institutional capacity of member nations and enabling the sharing of best practices and information.

The summit is anticipated to be attended by heads of state and government as well as senior government officials from throughout Africa, as well as representatives from multilateral and international organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of civil society organizations.

The ceremony will be attended by Ms. Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The summit’s closing statements will be given by Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, the UNOCT’s Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
