Ayodele Will Be A Good Minister For Youth -By Sanusi Ibrahim Abdu

When the administration of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu came on board and cabinets inaugurated, there were hues and cries from Nigerian youths who complained for exclusion. However, with the appointment of Ayodele Olawande as the minister of state for youths, president Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his promise to carry youths along who constituted 80% of the country’s population. His choice for Ayodele was greeted with wild jubilation across the country. The new ministerial nominee from Ondo state is a house hold name not only from his state but also the country at large. The Tinubu’s administration will find him fully prepared and capable to reach its good policies to Nigerians Youths. His performances in the previous assignments proved his track record of hardworking and services delivery.

Since the administration came on board on 29th May,2023,many questions which remain in the lips of Nigerians youths is: how the administration could confront the challenges of Nigerians youths’ such as unemployment, consumption of hard drugs, crime japa syndrome and violence. It has also raised another question on how government can leverage on sports activities to deal with the menace of youth unemployment. The promotion and support of sports will harness the potential talents of Nigerians youths. Sports alone can take away over 30 million youths off the streets and open incredible economic opportunities for individual excellence and national greatness. Sports seem the immediate saving grace from the twin evils of mass unemployment and insecurity in Nigeria of today. This is what the new minister plans to do when inaugurates and settles in office. He shows serious passion and commitment for sports and other youths related development programs which will empower Nigerian youths to become self-reliant and socially responsible.”

The ministry of youths is responsible for the national youth policy, youth development programmes, funding youth activities, youth participation, and to manage the National Youth Services Corps and the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre. Looking at the statutory mandate of the ministry, the state minister of youths, Ayodele Olawande will do his utmost best to implement the ministry’s policies such as focusing on enterprises development, vocational skills and training, youth voice, employment and education. This will align with the RENEW HOPE AGENDA of the president which anchor on youths development and empowerment. The president has repeatedly assured Nigerians youths that, his administration will give them top priority and fully engaged them for national development. With Ayodele Olawande in the ministry, the Tinubu’s agenda for Nigerians youths is achievable.

The minister designated, Ayodele, is a community development expert and youth leader in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC). He most recently served in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Innovation from 2019 to 2023.former vice-president Yemi Osinbajo. He was born on 8 April,1989,in Akure, Ondo state.

He attended Christ School, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state, for his secondary school education before proceeding to Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, for higher education. Olawande then studied at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo state. He tried his hands in business ventures for a while before making a foray into politics. He was the founder of the Action Youth Movement (AYM) and the ICT director for Ondo APC. Olawande is the coordinator of the All Progressive Youth Forum (APYF) in Ondo and also a general administrator at The Way Project.
