SdKfz 124 Wespe Self-Propelled Gun under maintenance

SdKfz 124 Wespe Self-Propelled Gun underwent maintenance in challenging muddy conditions in 1944, Italy.

In the backdrop, a mobile crane was positioned atop the chassis of the German semi-tracked tractor, the Sd.Kfz. „Famo.” To the left, one could spot the Italian Semovente 75/34 self-propelled gun.

The Wespe demonstrated reliability and excellent maneuverability. However, similar to its contemporary self-propelled artillery counterparts like the British Sexton and the U.S. M7 Priest, it lacked sufficient protection for the gun crew from overhead threats.[1] Despite being a smaller target compared to these allied vehicles, the Wespe had a smaller ammunition capacity due to its choice of a smaller chassis, which was determined by the limited production capacity for larger ones.
