Federal Cabinet Approves Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework

https://alsadatmarketing.com/feed/

We Were informed by reliable sources that the Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework and the establishment of a committee for the 5G spectrum auction were approved by the Federal Cabinet on Wednesday.

Telecom providers will be allowed to share resources including towers, antennas, cable ducts, and other essential infrastructure components under the infrastructure-sharing framework. The sharing method seeks to simplify resource utilization, encourage collaboration across telecom players, and maybe save operational costs.

The framework’s ability to boost foreign direct investment (FDI) in the telecom industry is one noteworthy aspect. Facilitating the sharing of vital components among enterprises enhances the industry’s attractiveness to overseas investors. This in turn may result in additional development and expansion.

The adoption of the framework also makes it possible for new businesses to enter the domestic telecom market. A more competitive environment may be made possible by the enhanced collaboration and pooling of resources, which could benefit customers by providing them with more choices and services.

The Federal Cabinet has approved the creation of a 5G Spectrum Auction Committee in addition to the framework. Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar will lead this committee, which is essential to the rollout of 5G technology. Ministers of Information Technology, Science & Technology, Industries & Production, and secretaries of important divisions will be present.

Reviewing the spectrum availability in different frequency bands, such as 700 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2600 MHz, would be the committee’s main responsibility. Following the advice of PTA consultants, the committee will proceed with the spectrum auction.

The IT minister noted that the infrastructure-sharing framework’s acceptance will lower telecom operators’ operating and maintenance expenses in a statement following the meeting. He stated that network upgrades will instead benefit from the framework’s savings.

Dr Saif further said that the 5G spectrum auction would be held after a consultant is appointed by the PTA.
