His parents, Anders Norlander and Elisabeth Norlander came from a well-to-do family. The youngest in the family, Henrik, has two older sisters named Ebba and Charlotte Norlander.

In 2008, Norlander represented his homecountry at the Eisenhower Trophy in Adelaide, Australia, and earned a bronze medal.

After high school, Norlander received a golf scholarship from Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia, United States. As a member of the Augusta Jaguars, he helped his team win the NCAA Division I Championship in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
