Ghana Drill Music is Ghana’s version of the popular hip-hop Drill genre, and the pioneers are a group of young rappers in Kumasi, Ghana, called the Asakaa music.

Ghanaian drill music is an out-of-box concept pioneered by Young music talents in Kumasi, leading to the establishment of the popular Kumerican movement.

Kumericans crafts of Ghana drill music received a lot of backlash from Black Americans who made it seem a no-go area for the Ghanaians venturing into drill music. On 13th June 2023, Grammy 2024 created 3 new categories featuring Ghana drill music for Grammy Awards.

Rapper Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, better known by his stage as Yaw Tog, is from Ghana and focuses on drill music, also referred to as Asakaa there. His most famous song, “Sore,” which featured O’Kenneth, went viral.

Although it shares many traits with trap music, the gritty hip-hop subgenre known as drill has different rhythmic themes, gloomier musical stylings, and darker lyrics.
