PM Modi’s Grand Visit to Pune: Inaugurating Metro Trains and Conferred with Lokmanya Tilak Award

To ensure smooth movement for VIP and VVIP dignitaries, the Pune Traffic Police have issued an essential advisory, outlining the roads and traffic junctions that citizens should avoid between 6 am and 3 pm. The trip holds immense importance as it marks the inauguration of metro train services on completed sections of the two corridors of Pune Metro Phase I, signifying a crucial step towards advancing urban transport systems in the city.

Inauguration of Pune Metro Phase I: A Milestone for Urban Transport

The Pune Metro Phase I is a transformative project aimed at enhancing urban transportation and easing commuting for the residents of Pune. The Prime Minister will be flagging off metro trains, symbolizing the commencement of services on two important sections. The first stretch spans from Phugewadi station to Civil Court station, while the second connects Garware College station to Ruby Hall Clinic station. These sections are strategically designed to connect key locations in Pune, including Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Pune Municipal Corporation office, Pune RTO, and Pune Railway Station, thereby significantly improving connectivity within the city.

Pune Metro’s Unique and Inspiring Design

The metro stations on the route have been thoughtfully designed, drawing inspiration from the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Notably, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station and Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station boast a unique architecture resembling the distinctive headgear worn by the soldiers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, known as “Mavala Pagadi.” Furthermore, the Shivaji Nagar underground Metro Station’s design evokes memories of the majestic forts built by the revered ruler.

One remarkable aspect is the Civil Court Metro Station, which stands as one of the deepest metro stations in the country, reaching a depth of 33.1 meters. The station’s roof is thoughtfully designed to allow natural sunlight to illuminate the platform, creating an eco-friendly and pleasant environment for commuters.

Lokmanya Tilak National Award: Honoring Remarkable Contributions

During his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be conferred with the prestigious Lokmanya Tilak National Award. Established by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983, the award is a tribute to the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak, a prominent freedom fighter and social reformer. It is presented annually on the 1st of August, the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak, to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the progress and development of the nation. Being recognized as the 41st recipient of this esteemed award places Prime Minister Modi in the company of luminaries such as Shankar Dayal Sharma, Pranab Mukherjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, N R Narayana Murthy, and E Sreedharan.

Development Projects to be Launched

Apart from inaugurating the Pune Metro Phase I, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for several other development projects. Among them is the Waste to Energy Plant under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). This state-of-the-art facility, developed at a cost of approximately ₹300 crores, will utilize around 2.5 lakh MT of waste annually to produce electricity, contributing to sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.

The Housing for All initiative will witness a significant boost, with Prime Minister Modi handing over more than 1280 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana by PCMC, and over 2650 PMAY houses constructed by Pune Municipal Corporation. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for approximately 1190 PMAY houses to be constructed by PCMC, as well as for over 6400 houses constructed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
