In a verdict delivered on Friday, a New York judge commanded former U.S. President Donald Trump to fork over a hefty $355 million, citing allegations of fraudulent activities.

The ruling also entails a three-year prohibition barring Trump from spearheading any business ventures within the state.

The judge, Arthur Engoron, minced no words in his assessment of Trump’s conduct, deeming the penalties fitting for what he described as Trump’s “complete lack of contrition and remorse.”

Reacting to the ruling, Trump’s defense lawyer, Alina Habba, labeled the decision as a “manifest injustice” and declared plans to mount an appeal against it.

Despite the severe financial blow, Trump’s rhetoric remains defiant. He portrayed the ban on conducting business in New York as a “corporate death penalty,” emphasizing the political undertones he believes are at play in the Legal proceedings.

Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., were also implicated in the case and have been ordered to cough up over $4 million each in damages. In response, Donald Jr. took to social media, insinuating that the outcome was driven by political biases rather than legal merits.

The judge’s directive didn’t end with monetary penalties. Engoron extended the oversight mandate of retired judge Barbara Jones to monitor Trump’s business affairs and further appointed an Independent Director of Compliance to oversee the Trump Organization.

The ruling marks a significant legal setback for Trump, who has been facing a barrage of legal challenges on multiple fronts. From criminal charges related to hush money payments to allegations of election interference, Trump finds himself entangled in a web of legal woes.
