Darjeeling is a beautiful hill station in West Bengal, India. It is famous for its tea gardens, toy train, and panoramic views of the Himalayas. I had always wanted to visit Darjeeling and in 2023, I got the opportunity to do so. It was the first trip to Darjeeling of my life.

I went to Darjeeling with my family in October. We took a flight from Delhi to Bagdogra and then a taxi to Darjeeling. The journey was scenic and enjoyable. We saw lush green valleys, winding roads, and snow-capped mountains along the way. We reached Darjeeling in the evening and checked into a cosy hotel.

The next day, we woke up early and went to Tiger Hill to witness the sunrise. It was a breathtaking sight to see the golden rays of the sun illuminate the peaks of Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world. We also visited the Batasia Loop and the War Memorial, which are located near Tiger Hill. The Batasia Loop is a spiral railway track that offers a 360-degree view of Darjeeling. The War Memorial is a monument dedicated to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in various wars.

After breakfast, we went to the Himalayan Zoological Park and Snow Leopard Breeding Center, which are home to many rare and endangered animals. We saw red pandas, black bears, yaks, and of course, snow leopards. We also visited the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which is a museum and a training centre for mountaineers. We learned about the history and achievements of mountaineering in India and saw the equipment and memorabilia of famous climbers.

In the afternoon, we took a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the toy train. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest and most charming railways in the world. The train runs on a narrow gauge track and passes through many bridges, tunnels, and curves. It offers a splendid view of the tea gardens, forests, and villages of Darjeeling.

In the evening, we went to Mall Road, which is the main shopping and dining area of Darjeeling. We bought some souvenirs, such as tea, handicrafts, and woollen clothes. We also tasted some local delicacies, such as momos, thukpa, and churpi. We enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the cool breeze of Darjeeling.

The next day, we checked out of the hotel and returned to Bagdogra. We had a wonderful time in Darjeeling and made some unforgettable memories. Darjeeling is truly a dream destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. I would love to visit Darjeeling again and explore more of its beauty and charm.
