This contest at 3.35pm is one of five live races from York on the Itv Racing schedule, with the broadcast on air from 1.30pm until 4.30pm.

Our Racing expert has selections for all the terrestrial action on another big day over the Knavesmire turf.

1.50 – Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes (1m 1f, Group 3)

Connections of NOSTRUM would have left Glorious Goodwood a touch disappointed with their silver medal three weeks ago but there is no doubting the soft ground there was a hindrance to the Kingman colt and a positive for his conqueror, Epictetus.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained three-year-old has a chance to atone for that now and should take it in the hands of Ryan Moore. Lope De Vega son El Drama is the obvious danger after a good start to his time with Karl Burke at Haydock a fortnight ago, but stablemate Flight Plan could improve past him.

Selection: Nostrum @ 11/10 with Betfred

2.25 – Sky Bet Melrose Handicap (1m 6f)

A chance for the three-year-old crop to tackle the Ebor course and distance. Davideo has top weight to carry for Ralph Beckett and Frankie Dettori, but he did have a pair of next-time-out winners behind at Newmarket six weeks ago and is capable of further progress.

Middle Earth and The Goat are contenders, while Lordship seeks a four-timer for William Haggas, who has sent out the winner of this race twice in the past four years.

Aidan O’Brien steps DENMARK right up in trip for this handicap bow and the Camelot colt is one to note in first-time blinkers back from a break. He is still clutching a host of group-race entries across the autumn and this test is well within his compass on pedigree.

Selection: Denmark @ 7/1 with Betfred

3.00 – Sky Bet City Of York Stakes (7f, Group 2)

Kinross is an out-and-out specialist over this distance and comes here to defend this crown having gone one better than last summer in the Lennox at Glorious Goodwood last time.

He only had a neck to spare there, but there was an inevitability about it. It will take a good one to stop him, as the market suggests, but maybe a return to this trip can spark a revival for SANDRINE, who pipped Kinross at Goodwood last summer.

Andrew Balding’s filly ran well for a long way in the Group 1 Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on August 6 and perhaps a first-time visor will aid Oisin Murphy’s partner with distance and ground favourable. She is a sporting alternative to Kinross and could hit the frame.

Selection: Sandrine @ 28/1 with Betfred

3.35 – Sky Bet Ebor Handicap (1m 6f)

Sweet William has been all the rage for this since his Glorious Goodwood win in the same race that Trawlerman won last summer before bagging this contest for the Gosdens.

The Clarehaven team have a fantastic Ebor record and Rab Havlin’s partner is a major player. So, too, are the Willie Mullins duo Absurde (Dettori) and Jackfinbar (William Buick), but the eye is drawn to another Irish raider in YASHIN for Jessica Harrington.

The Churchill gelding won a Leopardstown Group 3 over this trip in May on his comeback and last month’s Group 2 Curragh defeat can be forgiven. The soft ground was against him and his trainer is on record as stating that he is better when running left-handed – as he does here.

He needs more to defy his mark in this, but may well be capable of it as he looks to enhance his Melbourne Cup dreams.

Selection: Yashin @ 14/1 with Betfred

4.10 – Sky Bet Constantine Handicap (6f)

Staples of this division, such as Summerghand, Fresh and Gale Force Maya, are respected as always, while last month’s course-and-distance winner Aberama Gold is not taken lightly.

Behind him in third that day was THE GREEN MAN as he came from a good way back to finish never nearer than at the line. Armed with a significant benefit in the weights now, Joseph Parr’s four-year-old could turn the tables.

Selection: The Green Man @ 12/1 with Betfred
