There’s plenty of midweek racing action across Britain and Ireland with six Flat meetings scheduled.

The action begins at Salisbury (1.45-5.00pm) alongside afternoon cards from Beverley (2.00-5.25) and Yarmouth (2.25-5.17), with evening coming from Gowran Park (4.35-8.10), Ffos Las (5.50-8.20) and the all-weather fixture at Kempton (6.30-9.00).

Our midweek nap is a John and Thady Gosden filly seeking to land the feature race at Salisbury on her return from a midsummer hiatus.

Horse racing tips: Salisbury 4.30

This 1m 2f Listed race is an open affair on paper and Caernarfon ought to prove popular in the betting. This season Jack Channon’s filly has produced fine efforts in Group 1 defeats in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, the Oaks at Epsom and the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

During that sequence, she was slightly disappointing at Royal Ascot in the Hampton Court Stakes, never threatening and finishing sixth of 16.

That helps sway the vote to RUNNING LION for John and Thady Gosden with Oisin Murphy in the saddle. The Roaring Lion filly has won four of her six career starts, including a Listed contest over this trip on soft ground at Newmarket in May, when she was more than four lengths clear of the second.

From there she was deployed to the French Oaks where things didn’t go her way. It would be foolish to read too much into that Chantilly run and, given the manner of her previous run at Newmarket, she is instead fancied to bounce back after a break and resume her progress in this lesser grade.

Horse racing tips: Kempton 8.00

GOLDSMITH has only had a couple of runs since being bought by The Horse Watchers syndicate and has been placed in both instances at Sandown and Epsom.

He made good late progress at Epsom over an extended mile last time out to finish second in an apprentice handicap off today’s mark of 68, indicating that his turn may not be far off.

The Alice Haynes-trained gelding twice won over 1m 2f at Lingfield either side of the new year and has form over further, so connections will be hoping they go at a solid clip around here. There’s a good chance of that with the likes of Arctician, Double Time, King Cabo and Afta Party all having shown a fondness for getting on with things.

Jockey Ray Dawson is in good form and while Goldsmith has yet to win in this grade, those recent turf efforts have hinted the four-year-old could still be capable of better things.

Horse racing tips: Beverley 4.50

The Michael Dods-trained BERRY EDGE put together three excellent runs to start his campaign, finishing third at Ayr on his seasonal reappearance before a pair of runner-up finishes at the Scottish circuit and here over course and distance in May and June.

He was back at Ayr last month and perhaps found himself in the lead too soon before fading to be fifth, well beaten at the line.

He has a win, two seconds and a close fourth in his four previous starts here at Beverley and, eased 1lb by the handicapper, it might be worth siding with him to quickly leave that most recent effort behind and take this 1m 2f handicap.
