Team USA vs. Puerto Rico live score, updates, highlights from 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup tune-up game

Team USA’s road to a Gold Medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup starts tonight.

Before the United States heads to the Philippines for the tournament, it will play five exhibition tune-up games to give the new roster a chance to get comfortable with each other.

The first and only tune-up game on U.S. soil will be played in Las Vegas when Team USA faces off against Puerto Rico on Monday, Aug. 7.

From there, Team USA will head to Spain for scrimmages against Slovenia and Spain before traveling to Abu Dhabi for warm-up games against Greece and Germany.

Fans will get their first chance to see Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, and Team USA tonight. The Sporting News has you covered with live updates, highlights, and more from all the action below.

Second quarter

10:43 p.m. — Team USA starts the quarter with their second unit lineup featuring Tyrese Haliburton, Austin Reaves, Cam Johnson, Paolo Banchero and Bobby Portis. This unit is getting up and down the floor with plenty of energy. 

10:41 p.m. — Stephen Thompson Jr. gets the second started with a triple for Puerto Rico to cut the lead down to three points.  

End of first quarter: Team USA 27, Puerto Rico 21

After Puerto Rico took an early lead, Team USA found their rhythm, connecting on 11 of their last 15 shots to go into the first break with a six-point lead. 

Jaren Jackson Jr. was the focal point in the opening quarter, with a team-high eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, adding three rebounds, and a block, while Austin Reaves and Brandon Ingram have five points apiece. 

10:37 p.m. —Olympic gold medalists Kevin Durant and Draymond Green in the house to support Team USA.

10:34 p.m. — Tremont Waters in attack mode for Puerto Rico. He takes it right to the rim through traffic for two. He leads the way with nine points in Q1. 

10:30 p.m. — Austin Reaves gets a huge ovation from the crowd as he checks into the game and buries a triple with his first touch of the game. USA lead 17-12.

10:24 p.m. — Jaren Jackson Jr is making his presence felt early i this one on both ends of the floor. He’s scored six of the first eight points for USA.

10:20 p.m. — Defense turns to offense as Anthony Edwards runs the floor for the jam. 

10:18 p.m. — Team USA is moving the ball well early, but struggling to knock down shots. Puerto Rico lead 6-4

10:15 p.m. — Jaren Jackson Jr. gets it to go at the rim for the first points of the contest and we’re officially underway!

10:11 p.m. — Team USA will start with Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, Mikal Bridges, Brandon Ingram, and Jaren Jackson Jr.
