See Gucci’s history up-close for yourself, as part of a new London exhibition

Ever wondered what a piece of Gucci’s history looks like up close? Well, thanks to a new Exhibition coming to London this year, you can see for yourself.

After a successful debut in Shanghai in April, the Gucci Cosmos Exhibition is moving to the UK. Running from 11 October until 31 December, the immersive installation will showcase and celebrate the house’s most iconic and forward-thinking designs from its 102-year-long history.

The British artist Es Devlin – who designed the original Shanghai exhibit – has created a show space that pays homage to London, through a series of imaginative sets, sculptures and multimedia artworks. It will be staged at 180 Studios.

Following its stint in London, the exhibition will then move to Paris and then Kyoto, with each show featuring dedicated narratives that resonate with the distinct culture of its host city and country. The UK capital plays a particularly special role in Gucci’s rich history, as it was here that the house’s founder Guccio Gucci was first inspired to start his artisanal luggage atelier in 1921, while working as a porter at The Savoy hotel.

For the Cosmos exhibition, the Italian curator Maria Luisa Frisa has sourced never-before-seen items from the Gucci archive to display to the public, taking the viewer back through the decades of the Italian fashion house – demonstrating how it has evolved over the last century, and how its visionary design ethos has both reflected and defined the times.

Fashion fans can expect an impressive collection on display, with plenty of iconic bags, as well as archival looks from previous creative directors such as Tom Ford, Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele.

The Gucci Cosmos exhibition will run at 180 Studios in London from October 11 to December 31, 2023
