With NFL training camp steadfastly approaching, one of the final remaining first-rounders inked his deal on Monday. CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans agreed on a deal to finally get the No. 2 overall pick in tow. The Texans and Stroud agreed to a four-year contract that fully guarantees $36.2 million to the former Ohio State standout.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted the details. “No. 2 overall pick CJ Stroud and the Texans Reached Agreement on a four-year, fully-guaranteed, $36.2 million contract. 100% of the money is paid up front,” Schefter reported.

The contract includes a massive $23.38 million signing bonus, according to NFL.com. They also reported that it’s a first for the Texans to hand out such a lucrative signing bonus.
Houston made a massive coup in the 2023 NFL Draft when they drafted both Stroud and Alabama star linebacker Will Anderson, Jr. The team has a lot of obstacles in front of them, though, to get back to contending. While it’s true they play in a less-than-stellar division, the Texans might still struggle mightily this year.
But with Anderson, Stroud, Derek Stingley, and other promising up-and-comers, Houston might have a shot at things in the future, especially if new head coach (and former Texan linebacker) DeMeco Ryans pays dividends on the sidelines. Ryans is the third coach for the team in the last three seasons.

Despite this being Year 1 of a rookie contract, C.J. Stroud ($6.6M) already holds the 5th highest cap hit on the 2023 #Texans, who only carry two players (Laremy Tunsil, Tytus Howard) with cap figures north of $10M this season.https://t.co/QEY798bNSu
