Casanova Art & Fashion merges at new North Naples store – Gulfshore Business

A new North Naples Store combines art and fashion under one roof.

A North Naples couple — Keith Davison and his wife, Marina Montmorency — combined their two Naples stores in the new larger location. They recently closed their longtime locations in Bayfront and The Village Shops on Venetian Bay.

“We merged them into one and just closed the other two,” Davison said. “We thought it’d be simpler just to go under one roof and, plus, this is a lot nicer and new and we can spread out. We just really love the new location.”

“We needed some more space, a better space and custom designed,” Montmorency said.

Their lease was up at the end of May in Venetian Village, and they closed the Bayfront store in June.

“So, it’s been a process for like the last three months of getting everything moved and closed,” Davison said. “It was a major undertaking to move all that glass. I had to disassemble the chandeliers, reassemble them. I think I ended up doing like close to 40 vans of shipments before I got done. It was worth it. I think it turned out really nice.”

The couple originally launched a gallery in Bayfront nearly 20 years ago. He curates Murano glass while her passion is fashion. They found a way to pool their interests.

“We’ve been around for a long time and then over the years we ended up adding the fashion line because that’s Marina’s world,” Davison said. “She’s from Italy and her love is fashion. It’s kind of grown now. We’ve got literally the largest selection of Murano in the United States.”

Montmorency is originally from Torino, Italy, and worked for fashion companies in northern Italy. She introduced her husband to Murano.

“I took him to Venice and he was never the same since,” she said.

Now, Davison is a massive collector of fine glass, Venetian masks and ancient coins, all for sale at Casanova. The couple hand-picks all of the high-quality items in the store.

“On the island of Murano, which is part of Venice, there are literally probably one hundred different families that are known for their glassblowing,” he said. “We represent probably about 60 to 65 of those.”

Murano family furnaces have been creating handblown glass for about a thousand years. The Baroviers are one of the Murano families Casanova represents.

“They’re the oldest family on record of any glassblowing family in the world,” Davison said. “I’ve been to their offices and their furnace, and they have a family tree that goes back to 1290. And, literally, since 1290, that family has been blowing glass. Another family is the Segusos, and they’re almost as old. They go back 22 generations.”

The best-selling pieces are from Zanetti Murano, another family-run business founded in Italy in the 1950s and handed down for four generations. “He’s a well-known glassblower in Murano. And he does a lot of the sculptures like the sea life — turtles and dolphins and things that people here seem to love,” Davison said.

Although interior designers frequently buy pieces for their clients, the majority of the store’s business is from the general public. “We have a lot of people that are collectors,” he said. “We have some people that come once a year, and it’s their first stop when they get into town. They may stay for the winter, but they always come to see us. So, we have a lot of a lot of people that aren’t necessarily connoisseurs of collecting, but they like having a few nice pieces that they know are signed. So, they may not have a huge collection, but they want to have two or three special pieces.”

Montmorency’s specialized boutique occupies a smaller part of the new Casanova store. With few exceptions, all the designer apparel, swimwear, hats and other items are made in Italy and personally selected by Montmorency, who loves fabrics.

“Definitely, the boutique is a way to express myself and hopefully help elevate the taste level in Naples,” she said. “I’m hoping to stimulate that customer that is looking for quality products.”

She recently introduced some fine jewelry and signature glasses and sunglasses, such as Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana.

“We anticipate lots of success because this is an up-and-coming location. We’re very happy to be here,” Montmorency said.

In addition to finding a choice spot in a more central location, Hurricane Ian was a motivator for the couple to move inland from their waterfront locations.

“Both of the shops that we closed, the storm surge, literally, the water came up to the edge of our sidewalk, which is basically the height of our floor,” Davison said. “So, we were very fortunate. But, this year, we don’t have to worry about that.”

Casanova is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Sunday, the only day of the week it is closed.
