Jawan appears in the trailer to be a mass-produced South Indian-inspired movie with a genre-hopping tone that can be sentimental one minute and horrifyingly violent the next. Shah Rukh plays a soldier in one plotline of the movie and a vigilante who garners sympathy from the populace in another, giving the impression that the movie is taking place in different timelines.
Nayanthara not only plays the romantic interest of one of the main characters but also a cop entrusted with finding the vigilante. Or is Shah Rukh juggling multiple personas?

Jawan was initially scheduled for release in June but was postponed to allow for additional post-production time. After the 2015 smash blockbuster Chennai Express and the broad appeal of his most recent hit, Pathaan, the movie represents Shah Rukh’s first significant attempt at pan-Indian success. After a succession of failures that put him into a sort of hiatus for about five years, Shah Rukh made a spectacular comeback this year.

The Atlee-directed movie Jawan will be released in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. The majority of the cast and crew are South Indian actors, with a few important ones hailing from Tamil Nadu. The movie also stars Yogi Babu, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Vijay Sethupathi as the antagonist, Nayanthara as the love interest of Shah Rukh’s characters, and others in a supporting role.
