Review:
In this book, “The Keepers of the Lightning Brain”, Electra Kittner, the outstanding protagonist of the original series, vanished amid a sandstorm while guarding an American mission in the Middle East twenty years ago. The specifics of her disappearance remain unknown, but her close-knit community of professional and personal friends has formed a Keeper’s community to honour her memory and keep hope alive for her safe return.

A terrible incident has occurred, culminating in the annihilation all but one Keeper. Su-Lin Song Chou, who is in her nineties and suffering from physical and cognitive deterioration, has been tasked with activating the next generation of Keepers. She must carry out these orders under the supervision of a single person, a female code-named Indira, whose identity is undisclosed and can only reach through the digital realm.

Since Electra Kittner’s abduction twenty years ago, the club has convened annually to keep her memory alive. Su-Lin now contacts the four orphans for whom she serves as the guardian with Indira’s help. Indira, posing as Su-Lin’s assistant, sends twins Alonzo and Eve Carter and twins Nila and Nari Bose on a trip to Cairo to meet a person who will give them something in exchange for what they must return. Electra’s old adversaries attack them, and the four are increasingly concerned about what they don’t know about the mission and their mystery contact.

“The Keepers of the Lightning Brain” is the first book in the Keepers series, which is the successor to the author’s five-book series The Lightning Brain, which focuses on Electra’s life, incredible skills, and high intelligence. This first novel hints at the potential powers of the four orphans assigned to the Cairo mission. Ratza establishes the complicated link between the two sets of twins and their interactions through a flow of discourse that also shows unique personalities. This is one of those works that delivers cultural insights into its environment while furthering the storyline of an epic tale. It has incredible descriptions of Egypt, its history, and mythology.
