G Herbo, the acclaimed Chicago rapper, whose real name is Herbert Wright III, has recently reached a plea agreement in the U.S. District Court in Boston. He has admitted guilt to Federal Charges related to the use of Stolen Credit card information for extravagant purchases. The charges include one count of wire fraud and one count of providing false information to federal agents. The agreement, signed on Wednesday, awaits approval by a judge and could result in a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, though the final verdict may be less. A court hearing is scheduled later this month to decide the case's outcome.
The indictment, which was handed down in late 2020, implicates G Herbo and five others in a scheme to obtain stolen credit card data from dark web sites and various sources. The group allegedly used fake identification documents, driver's licenses, and email accounts, both under aliases and legitimate businesses, to carry out fraudulent activities targeting individuals and companies.
One specific incident mentioned in the indictment involved Antonio Strong, who identified himself as G Herbo's manager. He allegedly contacted a pet company in November 2017 to purchase two designer puppies using stolen credit card information. The same credit card was then used to pay for a car service to deliver the puppies to Chicago.
Another instance cited in the indictment was G Herbo's direct message to Strong on Instagram in July 2019, requesting a reservation for a private villa in Jamaica. Strong purportedly made the reservation using stolen payment details, and G Herbo and his associates stayed at the villa from July 7 to July 11.
The indictment detailed several other alleged fraudulent transactions, including the rental of luxury cars—a Maybach S600 and Bentley CGTC—on March 6, 2017.
G Herbo, hailing from Chicago's South Side, gained popularity in the early 2010s as a key figure in the city's drill music scene, alongside Chief Keef and Lil Durk. His music received acclaim for its raw and unapologetic portrayal of the harsh realities he faced growing up in the city and the toll they took on his mental health.
Despite achieving musical success and engaging in philanthropy within his community, G Herbo's rise to fame has been marred by legal troubles. Earlier this month, he was found in possession of a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Chicago's River North neighborhood. Prosecutors charged him with a misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon, while felony charges were denied. During the same incident, police allegedly recovered nearly 300 grams of cannabis, for which he did not face additional charges.
Records from Cook County court reveal a history of criminal charges against the rapper, primarily involving drug and gun-related offenses, most of which were later dropped. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge and received a two-year probation sentence.
G Herbo's guilty plea to federal charges represents another chapter in his ongoing legal saga. As the case progresses, the hip-hop community and fans await the final judgment from the court and hope for a positive transformation in the rapper's future.
