Prosecutors Request Judge to Sentence Tory Lanez to 13 Years in Prison for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting - WhatsOnRap

Prosecutors in Los Angeles are strongly demanding a 13-year jail term for Tory Lanez, who was convicted last year of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. They have vehemently presented their case before the judge, emphasizing Lanez's heinous behavior and his unrelenting efforts to humiliate and re-inflict anguish on the victim.

The sentencing hearing, set for next week, looms as Lanez, actual name Daystar Peterson, confronts the consequences of his acts. Lanez shot Megan, whose actual name is Megan Pete, in the foot after a heated fight during a pool party in the exclusive Hollywood Hills in 2020. The conviction in December on three felony counts has now cleared the path for prosecutors to file charges.

The prosecution highlighted in a strong sentencing memorandum issued on Tuesday, June 6, that anything less than a 13-year jail term would represent a major threat to public safety and would be counter to the interests of justice. They were notable for not only focusing on the act of shooting itself, but also on the agonizing aftermath, which was marked by Lanez's premeditated campaign to humiliate and re-traumatize the victim.

Prosecutors described how the defendant intentionally encouraged harassment of the victim by circulating false information among his large following. This purposeful effort to rally the public against the victim, as well as the prosecution team, showed full contempt for the possible hazards it created.

The prosecutors also emphasized how Lanez weaponized disinformation to such an extent that it caused the victim long-term distress, leaving an everlasting scar on her life.

The lawsuit revealed Lanez's inability to accept responsibility for his own acts, in addition to his lack of remorse. The prosecution described Lanez's lack of contrition as "insidious," leaving the court with no confidence that he would not repeat similar acts in the future. Their brief, which was filed on June 6, stressed the seriousness of the situation and the importance of a decisive reaction.

Despite these severe charges, Lanez's attorneys have refused to reply to a request for comment, keeping many people in the dark about their position.

The upcoming sentencing, nearly three years after the fateful shooting on July 12, 2020, represents a crucial moment for justice to be served. The incident occurred while Lanez, Megan, and her assistant and friend Kelsey Harris were being transported by a driver from a party at the residence of Kylie Jenner. According to the prosecution's account, an argument ensued, leading Megan to exit the vehicle and begin walking away when Lanez callously shouted, "Dance, bitch!" before firing shots at her feet.

As the sentencing date approaches, the significance of this case extends beyond the individuals involved. It serves as a testament to the importance of accountability, ensuring that those who perpetrate acts of violence and harassment face the consequences of their actions. The prosecution's resolute pursuit of justice underscores their commitment to upholding public safety and protecting victims from further harm.
