The autobiography of Paramahansa Yogananda (yogi) the great yogi who ignited the knowledge of Yoga in the west , takes you into a world of spiritual wonders that opens the doors of minds and spirit. One of the most read spiritual books in the world is “Autobiography of a Yogi” An autobiography of Paramahansa Yogananda , one of the greatest yogi of the indian spiritual tradition. The knowledge of about Paramahansa yogananda opens the doors of mind and soul.

Before moving forward on the journey of autobiography of this great yogi, it is necessary to mention an incident of his death. This is a glimpse of what he has earned throughout his as a Yogi. Saint Yogananda entered Mahasamadhi after finishing his speech at a banquet in honor of indian Ambassador Binoy Ranjan Sen in Los Angles, March 7, 1952. His body was temporarily interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Accordingly to the directors of this Park, Harry T. Rowe , even after 20 days of death , neither the colour of his skin changed nor there was any dryness in the fibers of his body.

The aura of his face remained the same. He had never seen such a wonderful incident before.

Paramahansa Yogananda has written the autobiography in a very systematic manner . The accounts you find in this book about great yogis and their extraordinary lives from childhood to rest of the journey are difficult to find anywhere else. Spiritual miracles may be hard to believe in this age of alienation, but you can’t help but be over them described by an eyewitness Yogi. These accounts of Yogananda Combined with unique glimpse into his spiritual studies make the experience even more wonderful. The Kind of prophecies that were made for them as soon as they were born and the way their truth were born and the way their truth came to the fore throughout their lives, it rarely happens. He says , in my childhood memories pf past life events were emerging , clear recollection of a life long ago awakened in me, when I was a yogi living in the Himalayas . These peeps connected with an unknown link and showed me a glimpse pf the future . Man had been only a body, he would have ceased to exist with his death , but the siddha me have been proving that man is the bodies, all- pervading soul.

Paramahansa Yogananda was born on 05 january 1893 in Gorakhpur to a Bengali family . Mukundlal Ghosh was the fourth child among four brothers and four sister. Father was vice President in Railways so the family lived in many cities. Both the parents were very Spiritual. The strange coincidence that his father Bhagwaticharan Ghosh became a disciple of the great saint Lahiri Mahasaya , was a coincidence that Paramahansa Yogananda continued to meet great yogis throughout his life. Bhagwati Charan who had not given leave to his empkoyee to meet his Gueu L ahiri Mahasaya, himself appeared and called both of them to him. After this Gurudev initiated Yoagananda ‘s parents into Kriya Yoga.

Great saintly characters like Lhiri Mahasaya and their supernatural miracles had a deep impact on Paramahansa Yogananda . In his autobiography , he wrote that at the age 8 when he was near death due to cholera the divine aura emanating fro Lahiri Mahasaya “s picture hanging on the wall breathed life into him. This photo also has a wonderful story Lahiri Mahasaya didn’t like to be ohotographed. Once a group photo was taken with his disciples despite his protests. The film was washed and everyone else”s photo was clear. only Lahiri Mahasaya “s place was empty,.

*Then Gnagadhar Babu, a skilled photographer bragged that whatever Lahiri Mahasaya did, he would take his photo. The next day Gurudev was seated in Padmasana o a wooden bench , a curtain was drawn behind and photographs were taken. But only he bench and curtain came in the photo, not Lahiri Sir. After Gangadhar Bahu”s tearful eyes and hearfelt appeal, Gurudev agreed to pose for a photographer. This time his photo emerged on the plate. This is the first and last photo of him that is available till now, which is also in tjis book.

*The most important aspect of this autobiography is Paramahansa Yogananada “s depature from India to America Readers often wonder why Yogananda spent most of his life spreading spirituality in the west instaed of in India . The answer to this is clear from a meeting between Lahiri Mahasya”s Guru Babuji and Guru Sri Yukteswar.

Shri Yukteshwar , describinh his meeting with Babaji and Guru Sri Yukestwar. Sri Yukestwar , describing his meeting with babaji in front of Paramhansa , told that Babaji in front of Paramhansa , told that Babaji had already predicted the arrival of Paramahansa ashis disciple. He told Shri Yukestwar ji, East and West will have to establish a path made up of karma and spirituality. India has a lot to learn from the western world in material development and in return India can give Knowledge of such methods that can be adopted by all , by which the western world can establish it”s religious belief on the unshakable foundation of Yoga Science. After a few years I will send a disciple to you, whom you can train to spread the knowledge of Yoga in the west . I see many people in America and Europe who deserve to be saints, it is too late to be awakened.

* The mountains of the northern Himalayas Surrounding Badrinath are still being Sanctified by Babaji”s living presence. Paramhansa writes, this Mahaguru, living in a secluded region away from the crowd, has been living in his gross body for centuries perhaps for millennia. He is Mahaavatar his spiritual state is beyond human comprehension. According to the autobiography , there is no mention of Babaji anywhere in history . They have never appered in any century. They go about their work in humble anonymity. They are always in touch with jesus christ . According to history Adi Shankararcharya’s Guru Govind was a yeti, but he took initiation into Kriya Yoga from Babaji in Kashi . Babaji had described in details his meeting with great monist . Babaji had also given yoga diksha to the medieval saint Kabir.

* Babaji”s meeting with Lahiri Mahasaya is recorded in the form of such a unique incident. reading which one experiences divinity Swami Kevalanand ji and Shri Yukteswar ji both told this story to Paramahansa Yogananada Lahiri Mahasaya was 33 years old at the time of this meeting. In 1862, he was an accountant in themilitary engineering Department at Danapur . One day he was told that he had been transferred to Ranikhet. After a journey of 30 days , he reached Ranikhet, One day while traveling he felt that someone was calling him in the mountains. Outside a a cave , a young man was standing with his arms outstretched, smiling He called Lahiri Mahasaya as Gangadhar which was his previous birth name showing a cave , he asked remember this posture? Lahiri Mahasaya said , No Maharaj. But I have work in office in the morning , have to go. To this the saint replied in English; The office was brough for you, and not you for the office. Means the office has you for the office. Means the office has been made for you, you are not for the office.

Lahiri Mahasaya was surprised to hear English. Then that you g man gently hit. His forehead . Due to this wonderful current flowed in his mind. The sweet memories of his previous birth awoke. He said, ‘I remembered, you are my Guru Babaji . It was in this cave that I spent many years of my previous birth; BABAJI TOLD THEM THAT SINCE Gangadhar’s death, he had been watching him Constantly and was waiting for this day. Babaji gave him the bowl of oil kept there to drink and said, goand lie down on the river bank. Almost the guest of divine memories, someone made him stand and gave him dry clothes. He took Lahiri Mahasaya to a place where the night was lit by a steady light. That was the Golden Palace. Countless gems were studded in this palace. On the way, men like goods were standing at the gates with the red aura of gems like princeless diamonds and emeralds. Countless fragrance, colourful light of lamps, small circles of devotees and chanting in slow voice. In fact, it was a wish lurking in the subconscious mind of Lahiri Mahsaya which was realised by Babaji in such a way that this last chapter of karmas born out of his wish would come to an end.

  • Then the man took Lahiri Mahsaya to rooms that were very attractively decorated. A gold throne was place in the centre of a hall. Babaji was sitting on it in Padmansan. He initiated Lahiri Mahasaya into the liberating Kriya yoga. Then Lahari Mahsaya attained samadhi for seven days on the seat of his previous birth. All the bonds of Maya were broken. On the eight day, when he returned to the Guru’s feet , the Guru said to him, ” your life is meant to be an example of an ideal householder yogi living in the midst of the crowed of cities’ you have been chosen to give spiritual solace to the true aspirants through Kriya Yoga. Giving this key to a action only to qualified disciples. Only he who resolves to renounce everything’s else in the pursuit of God is fit to discover the ultimate secrets of life through the science of meditation. The next day Lahiri Mahasaya returned to Ranikhet as per Guru ‘ s order where he was informed that he had been transferred to Danapur.
