Chidiera Ejuke Leaves CSKA Moscow For Antwerp On Loan

Nigerian forward Chidiera Ejuke has left CSKA Moscow to join Royal Antwerp of the Belgium Jupiler Pro League for a season-long loan deal.

The Belgium Jupiler Pro League side announced the arrival of the 25-year-old Nigeria international via the club’s official website on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

Chidiera Ejuke joined Royal Antwerp through a FIFA rule which permits foreign players who are playing for Russian clubs to move to clubs outside the country. The exception rule was establish after Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

Ejuke will become the second Nigerian player on the Belgian Pro League champions’ payroll, joining former Gombe United attacker Alhassan Yusuf.

In the 2017–2018 German Bundesliga season, Ejuke played on loan for Hertha Berlin, however due to injury, he was able to participate in just 21 games, starting nine of them and providing three assists.

Given that the Jupiler Pro League has already started, the 25-year-old will need to adapt quickly if he wants to have a shot of making the first team and getting enough playing time.

The league champions began their title defense with a 1-0 victory over Club Brugge at the Bosuil Stadion on Sunday.

Ejuke made his international debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly game against Tunisia that ended in a 1-1 draw in October 2020. He was part of the Super Eagles squad that featured in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
