Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, acknowledges the long-standing power sector challenges, emphasizing the need for consistent progress over time. Read more about his insights on the recent tariff hike and the government's efforts in addressing the issue.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, recently addressed the challenges facing Nigeria's power sector, highlighting the complexity of resolving issues accumulated over five decades. Adelabu emphasized that while the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to improving the situation, the magnitude of the problems means that progress will be gradual and consistent.

In an interview with Channels Television, Adelabu acknowledged the frustration caused by the recent electricity tariff hike, particularly among Organized Labour Unions and the general public. However, he stressed the necessity of sustained efforts to address the root causes of the sector's longstanding challenges.

The problem we are having is an accumulated problem of over 50 years; it will not disappear in one year, but we’ve been making consistent and gradual progress," Adelabu stated.

Despite the discontentment over the tariff increase, Adelabu's remarks reflect a broader understanding within the government of the need for patience and persistence in tackling the complexities of the power sector.

As Nigeria continues its journey towards a more reliable and efficient electricity system, Adelabu's insights underscore the importance of long-term strategies and sustained commitment to drive meaningful change.
