Germany’s Laura Siegemund defeated Norwegian lucky loser Ulrikke Eikeri 6-1, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Jiangxi Open at Nanchang International Tennis Center on Friday.
Siegemund, ranked No 91, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 7 seed, and Katerina Siniakova next.
The 35-year-old German won against Chinese Xinyu Wang, the No 4 seed (6-1, 7-5) in the previous round of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Eikeri benefited from the retirement of Slovenian Kaja Juvan (6-2, 1-2).
