Library News: Week of Sept. 3, 2023

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Library, 407 12th St., Worthington, is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Adrian Branch Library, 214 Maine Ave., Adrian, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday.

Upcoming holiday closures: The library in Worthington will be closed Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. The library will also be closed Saturday, Sept. 16 for King Turkey Day. The Adrian branch library will be closed Monday, Sept. 4; and will resume Saturday hours beginning Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m..

Did You Know? The state of Minnesota is split into 12 library systems? We (southwest Minnesota) are in the Plum Creek Library System, which includes nine counties and 26 libraries!

Friends of the Library: Stop by the Farmers Market and visit with the Friends of the Library from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, at the Pavilion in downtown Worthington.

After school programs in Worthington

After School Programs begin the week of Sept. 11. Please call the library at (507) 295-5340 to sign up your children. Children are responsible for their own ride to and from the library. Please have your children picked up by 5 p.m.

Mondays: Wii (grades 5-9), after school until 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays: programming (grades K-5), after school until 4:45 p.m.

Wednesdays: Story Time (toddlers-preschoolers), 10 to 11 a.m.; Just Gurlz (girls grades 5-9), after school until 4:45 p.m.

Thursdays: programming (grades K-5), after school until 4:45 p.m.

New books for adults: “Lion & Lamb” by James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski, “Where the Dead Sleep” by Joshua Moehling, “The Invisible Hour” by Alice Hoffman, “An Honest Man” by Michael Koryta, “Tides of Fire” by James Rollins, “The One That Got Away” by Charlotte Rixon and “Like a River” by Granger Smith.

New large print books for adults: “Lion & Lamb” by James Patterson and Duane Swierzynski, “The Maze” by Nelson DeMille, “The Homewreckers” by Mary Kay Andrews, “The Many Daughters of Afong Moy” by Jamie Ford, “Tracy Flick Can’t Win” by Tom Perrotta, “The Best Strangers in the World” by Ari Shapiro and “His Majesty’s Airship” by S.C. Gwynne.

New books for children: “Bears are Best!” by Joan Holub and “Llama Llama’s Little Lie” by Reed Duncan.

New DVDs: “No Hard Feelings”, “You Hurt My Feelings”, “Blue Bloods” (Season 13), “NCIS” (Season 20) and “The Flash”

Sept. 19: Paint Party with SammyJo Miller, 6 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required!

Sept. 20: “Prairie Songs: Sing along with Laura Ingalls Wilder,” Noon to 1 p.m.

Friends of the Library Book Club: The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 to discuss the book, “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict. All are welcome!

Now Showing: Creature Feature by Kelly Henkels. The last day of this show is Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Art Club: Art Club meets the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to join and all are welcome!

Farmer’s Market: During the Farmers Market season (June through October), the Art Center will have a booth downtown and will close at 3 p.m. each Tuesday.
