Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker reached the last 16 of the US Open by winning against French wildcard Benjamin Bonzi 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Stricker, ranked No 128, will face the winner of the match between qualifier Jakub Mensik and American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old Swiss beat Australian Alexei Popyrin (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 6-3).
Bonzi, ranked No 108, edged out Quentin Halys (5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4) and American Christopher Eubanks, the No 28 seed (7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7)) earlier in the tournament.
