Fab 5: Colour me happy

Rebecca Tay showcases five makeup items to liven up your spring.

Article content

Perhaps it’s all the Barbie selfies we’ve seen over the past few weeks, or simply the fact that spring is finally here — but there’s a definite feeling of lightness in the air that has us reaching for all things bright and colourful.

And that goes for our makeup, too. Sure, there’s always a time and a place for a smoky eye and a brick lip, but right now, we’re craving bold eyeshadows, richly pigmented lips and palettes that include every shade of the rainbow.

OUT OF THE BLUE

Whatever you think of her, her family, or even the Spice Girls, there’s no denying that Victoria Beckham has built an impressive fashion and beauty empire. And while her clothing collections may not be for everyone, her beauty range is easy to love, with skincare and makeup that’s made of high quality ingredients that feel and look good. Case in point: the Smoky Eye Brick in Royal, which features four shades — including a vibrant cerulean — that let you recreate her signature smoky eye.

NAILED IT

Every so often, Chanel’s newest nail varnish launch shoots straight to the top of the most-wanted list. Remember Black Satin? While this year’s 967 Watermelon hasn’t reached instant sold-out status, we anticipate that it will be a super-popular shade this season, given that it looks great on both short and long nails, with dresses and more casual outfits, and feels suitably optimistic for spring.

FABULOUSLY FEARLESS

Jenn Harper founded Cheekbone Beauty in 2015 as the first Indigenous-owned and founded cosmetics company, and to date, the company has donated more than $200,000 to causes that aim to make a difference in the lives of Indigenous youth. Every product is vegan and cruelty free, including this ‘Fearless Eyeshadow,’ which contains coconut oil so it glides on easily and comfortably. We love this cobalt blue, as well as the brand’s statement Sky Blue and Seafoam Green shades.
