NFL Week 6 | How to Bet, Lines, Odds, Expert Picks, Schedule

Each week on The Action Network Podcast, I make The Hot Read, two picks I’m grabbing right away Sunday night. We’re trying to get ahead of potential line movement to grab Closing Line Value (CLV) in our favor and before lines cross key numbers.

So far this season, we’re 7-1 on The Hot Read picks after cashing on both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in Week 5. Now, I’m already kicking off my NFL Week 6 betting card, where we will eventually break down Odds, picks and bets for every game and every team.

Keep in mind that these are early picks, bets, thoughts and leans. We’ll update this file throughout the week, especially as I track more bets (and make sure you’re following me in the Action Network app!), but things can and will change between now and the weekend, sometimes quickly. Make sure you understand the full context for each pick below before placing a bet, and keep checking back.

Until then, here’s how to bet NFL Week 6: the lines and odds for every game, plus some expert picks and things I’m watching for so far this week.

My pick: Bet Colts +5.5 (or the best number you can find)

I’ve had this spot circled since the schedule came out. Indianapolis was my pick on The Lookahead on our Friday podcast, and I want to make sure you get it here too before the line moves.

Jacksonville had a big advantage Sunday, playing a second straight week in London while the Bills flew in on Friday and looked the part, like they were still fighting off jet lag. Buffalo was also playing without its top two corners and a handful of defensive linemen, then lost star cover LB Matt Milano mid-game, leaving the defense exposed. Even with all those advantages, the Jaguars still barely held on to win late. The offensive line continues to have real issues and Press Taylor’s offense isn’t clicking.

Now that big advantage Jacksonville had flips to a disadvantage, one we’ve never seen in NFL history, as the Jaguars return home from two weeks overseas. We’ve consistently seen teams struggle returning stateside after playing in London without a bye. The Falcons defense gave up a late drive Sunday in that spot and fell behind before a comeback of its own, and that’s now 11-of-11 post-London teams who were tied or trailing in the fourth quarter the following week without a bye to recover from the travel.

This might be a home-field disadvantage for Jacksonville, with Indy getting the easier travel. Trevor Lawrence is 2-6 ATS when he plays in warm weather (77 degrees or hotter), as it should be in Jacksonville, Florida. He’s also 3-7 ATS as a favorite (30%), including 0-5 ATS when favored by four or more. He’s 1-4 SU in those games as a big favorite, and I wonder if the Colts might just be the better team. Shane Steichen is really pulling the strings for Indianapolis, Jonathan Taylor is back, and this could end up a revenge spot for Gardner Minshew if Anthony Richardson is out — and that might be an upgrade, if anything.

Play this unprecedented schedule disadvantage for Jacksonville by grabbing Colts +5.5 or the best number you can find. This one is already moving.

My pick: Bet Seahawks +3

I was eyeing Seattle in this spot coming into Sunday, so I grabbed the line right away once I saw it at +3, making sure we get that key number. I actually think the Seahawks should be favored.

Seattle ranks in the top half of the NFL on offense, defense, and special teams by DVOA, including top 10 both running and passing offensively. And the Seahawks have done that despite major injuries at key positions on the offensive line and in the secondary. Now they’re coming off this bye week with a chance to get healthier.

The Bengals did play Sunday and beat up on a bad Cardinals defense, and that pushed this line up, but I’m not sure we learned much. Cincinnati entered the weekend bottom 10 in both offensive and defensive DVOA, and Arizona is the team everyone thought would get the No. 1 pick entering the season.

Geno Smith is 20-13-2 ATS (61%) as an underdog, and Pete Carroll is also 61% ATS as a dog. Road underdogs of 2.5-to-3 points are historically profitable at 55% ATS. This is a good spot for Seattle. I think they may win outright, and I definitely want the key number. Give me Seahawks +3.

My thoughts: Like the Bears, but see if we can get an even better number

Minnesota does not play well in Chicago. The Bears have won outright or lost by three or less in 21 of the last 23 meetings in Chicago. This line appears to be rising, but I’ll probably be on Chicago and want to grab at least Bears +3 if it goes the other way.

My thoughts: See if we can get +3 with the Texans

Regular readers know I’ve been all over the Texans, and they were impressive even in a loss, with another great game from C.J. Stroud. I also continue to bet against Dennis Allen and the Saints, especially as favorites. I’m absolutely on Houston in this game, but at +2.5 let’s wait and see if we get to the key number of +3. Be ready to bet if we do.

My thoughts: Might like the under — at the right number

I keep playing Jets unders, though it didn’t hit on Sunday thanks to a few goofy turnovers. It looks like Jets +6.5 and the under are the right side, but I’m not quite ready to jump on Zach Wilson just yet against an Eagles team coming off its best performance of the season and this total — which you can get at 42.5 if you shop around — appears to be trending up, so we may get another point or two.

My thoughts: Like the over — at the right number

Both of these offenses have been super fun early in the season. Sean McVay is in his bag again for the Rams, who now have Cooper Kupp back, and Drew Petzing has done an incredible job, despite a dearth of talent, calling plays for the Cardinals. Our totals expert Austin Wang is already on this one too, although at 46, and the line is now 46.5 at FanDuel.
