Sam Golden Invitational

Oakmont Country Club | Corinth, Texas

The UNT women’s golf team will open its season with the second edition of the Sam Golden Invitational, which the Mean Green host every two years.

THE EVENT: Oakmont Country Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,413 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the event will conclude on Tuesday the final round. Both days will start with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m.

THE FIELD: There are 12 teams participating in the tournament: BYU, Charlotte, Houston, Kennesaw State, Missouri, Nebraska, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulane, Tulsa, UNT and UTSA.

REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Shreya Pal, Bouquet Subsomboon, Ellie Roth, Mason Lewis and Emilie Ricaud. Katharina Anglett, Chandler Browning, Mallorie Luitwieler and Sakura Sugiyama will be competing as individuals. Subsomboon and Anglett will be making their collegiate debuts.

RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on Golfstat. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.

AKERS SAYS: “We are excited to start the year by hosting the Sam Golden Invitational. We have played all of our qualifying rounds at Oakmont and we certainly should be prepared. Four

of our players have been going low in qualifying. Bouquet, Ellie, Emilie and Mason have been playing great golf. Oakmont has treated us very well, and we feel fortunate they have embraced the event.”

MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over eight years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for three straight NCAA Regionals on the heels of three straight conference championships.

UP NEXT: The Mean Green will head north of the Red River for the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma, on Sept. 23-25.

NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy’s UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
