Angus McNae horse racing tips: my best four bets for Sunday

By Angus McNae

The action on Racing TV on Sunday comes from Goodwood, Beverley and Naas. I have four selections divided between the three meetings.

1.30 Naas: Tannola

Dermot Weld has his horses in good form and this filly can give him another winner. She produced a big speed figure on debut when showing loads of ability before being collared late on by Purple Lily, who also looks to be a very smart prospect. She showed a decent turn of foot when quickening turning for home and she can utilise that to good effect here. She is well related and has the look of a future pattern performer.

1.50 Goodwood: Remaadd

This colt shaped with a good deal of promise when finishing second at Haydock on his debut and he can go one better here. He finished second to the useful and unbeaten Alshinfarah despite showing signs of inexperience. He is from a very good family and looks sure to be suited by stepping up to a mile given the stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree. Tom Marquand and William Haggas have been in fine from this week and can secure another success.

2.50 Beverley: Emeralds Pride

She may not be the most consistent of individuals but looked to be in good form when winning at Ayr last time out and this is a good opportunity for her to back that up. She won that Ayr race off a mark of 60 and has only been raised a couple of pounds, enabling her to stay in Class 6 company. She is something of a quirky individual but having her race in cheekpieces last time out – after a period of racing without them – seemed to work and she retains them here.

4.35 Beverley: Hale End

This consistent gelding still looks well treated off a mark of 73. He has not finished out of the frame since joining Michael Dods and can gain a second win for the yard. He put up his best effort yet when finishing second at Doncaster last time out in a Class 4 handicap and now he drops into a Class 5 he looks sure to go close. Some of his recent progression can be attributed to the application of cheekpieces three starts ago and they are retained.
