The English cricket team gave a memorable ending to pacer Stuart Broad’s international career and won the fifth Ashes 2023 match by 49 runs. The hosts came back strong in the series and almost were in the position of regaining the coveted ‘urn’ after eight years. Chris Woakes played an important role in England’s comeback against Australia and picked up 19 wickets from three matches.

Chris Woakes leads England’s comeback in Ashes 2023 series

English cricket team all-rounder Chris Woakes was adjudged England’s Player of the Series for his impressive performance in the series. Woakes managed to pick up a total of 19 wickets in the three Tests he played which was the third highest after Stuart Broad and Mitchell Starc in the series. 

Being included in the team for the third Test at Headingley, Chris Woakes took a total of six wickets in the match and dismissed the likes of top batters like Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh. Woakes also played an important 32-run knock in the third Test and helped the hosts win the match by three wickets. 

R Ashwin’s impressed with Chris Woakes’ performance in Ashes 2023 series 

Veteran Indian cricket team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was impressed by Chris Woakes’ performance in the Ashes 2023 series and feels jealous of his all-round abilities. Ashwin while speaking on his YouTube channel said how can someone have everything and was also baffled due to his snub from the Test team. Ashwin said: 

From head to toe, he is soaked in cricket. I can’t understand why he has been in and out of the Test team all these years. According to me, he would be among the first three names of any country’s eleven. I am envious of him – how can someone have everything?

Chris Woakes has represented England in a total of 189 international matches wherein he has picked up a total of 336 wickets. He has also picked up a total of 8 five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul.
