Race 1. (22:40) Coral Handicap 1006m

Back Me

2 Raasel (Bet Now: $5.50) for me in the opener. Son of Showcasing that ran down the straight at Ascot last time where he was behind the speed throughout and was seemingly going quite well. He just didn’t want to angle off the back of them, laying in and not really giving himself a chance to win. If he gets clear air and room to move, I think he’s the one to beat.

Danger

6 Vintage Clarets (Bet Now: $7.00) will jump on the bunny and run a positive race. He ran third in the race mentioned above when leading and giving a bold sight but just couldn’t quite see it through but stayed on well enough in defeat when third to The Big Board. Good racing style and was impressive in a couple of wins prior to last start.

Long Shot

1 Clarendon House (Bet Now: $10.00) has run well at Goodwood previously so I wouldn’t dismiss him just yet. He ran at Sandown over this trip last time when holding the inside to lead but was a beaten horse a long way out, finishing tailed off last in a plain run. He’s better than that and overall, the depth here isn’t overly strong.

Race 2. (23:15) British EBF 40th Anniversary Maiden 1207m

Back Me

3 Array (Bet Now: $3.30) looks the straight bat option. Well bred colt that debuted at Newbury where he was near the front of the pack throughout and tried hard, but was no match late for Starlust. The third horse came out and won next start at Ascot so the form has been ticked off and with the run under the belt, he’ll take beating against this lot.

Danger

8 Dorney Lake (Bet Now: $7.50) is a definite market watch. Team Gosden trained colt that is on debut. He cost $220,000 as a yearling and is related to several nice horses, notably Peggy’s Angel, who was a 2YO winner at 1200m, which is a good line up for a race like this. He’s being kept safe in early betting, which is a positive sign at this stage.

Long Shot

2 Alaskan Gold (Bet Now: $11.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. Son of Kodiac that debuted down the straight at Nottingham when near the speed throughout and was there to threaten but just lacked the change up speed to go with them late, but stayed on to run third. Not sure he has the quality to win, but can pinch a first four spot.

Race 3. (23:50) Chesterfield Cup 1991m

Back Me

9 Millebosc (Bet Now: $6.00) on top for me in an open race. He was kept very safe in betting when resuming at York but he bombed the start and that pretty much sealed his fate but he did find the line well enough after that. He’s got more upside than most and with a better jump, I think he has the engine under the hood to take this out. On top, but not really a betting race.

Danger

2 Pride Of America (Bet Now: $10.00) commands respect. He won the race mentioned above at York, albeit just, but he was given a lovely ride near the speed by Larson and although he probably took off a tad early, he had enough in hand, just, to win. The end of the trip is probably a slight query but hard to knock the way he’s racing.

Long Shot

11 Eagle’s Way (Bet Now: $9.00) is an improving type. Son of Gleneagles that resumed at Yarmouth over 2000m when kept safe in the market. He had a decent run in transit near the speed and chased hard but being first up in around 10 months, condition jut couldn’t sustain and had to settle for a narrow second. Good upside to come, he’s a leading chance.

Race 4. (00:25) Vintage Stakes 1408m

Back Me

3 Iberian (Bet Now: $3.80) could be a jet. He has been kept on ice since June 15 when winning his debut at Newbury with a fair amount of arrogance, absolutely trucking in the run under Rossa Ryan before angling into clear air and gee he let down nicely to win and win well. Couple of winners have come out of that and off that effort, he’ll love 1400m. Hard to beat.

Danger

2 Haatem (Bet Now: $3.80) has to be rated as one of the main chances. He comes through the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket when near the speed throughout and did make his move with City Of Troy but that horse just has more gears and won like a potential star. He comfortably beat Haatem but he comfortably beat the rest, so the form clearly reads well for this.

Long Shot

4 Mountain Bear (Bet Now: $6.50) is dangerous at a likely decent price. He ran in the July Stakes at Newmarket last time and his fate was sealed early an early check, getting hampered and was never really a factor behind surprise winner Jasour. How strong is that form? Not sure, but the maiden win prior at Curragh was impressive so giving him another look.

Race 5. (01:00) Lennox Stakes 1408m

Back Me

4 Kinross (Bet Now: $2.40) has a great record at Goodwood and brings the A1 form. He ran in the July Cup at Newmarket where he had the back of the eventual winner, Shaquille, and tried his guts out, but just didn’t have the speed in the legs to go with them late, running third. He saves his best for 1400m so getting to that trip here, he’s the one to beat, clearly.

Danger

8 Isaac Shelby (Bet Now: $5.50) should appreciate coming back to 1400m. He ran in the St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot over the mile and I thought ran a very credible race from behind the speed. Just was no match for Paddington, who is world class IMO, so that form clearly reads well for this, an I do think 1600m back to 1400m is a big tick. Key threat.

Long Shot

5 Pogo (Bet Now: $9.50) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Outclassed first up in the Queen Anne after a tardy start. He then went to Newmarket when on speed throughout and while safely held, he stuck on well enough behind Audience, finishing third. Hard fit, can sit near the front and he does have a liking for Goodwood.

Race 6. (01:35) Goodwood Cup 3219m

Back Me

The proven performer at this level is 2 Coltrane (Bet Now: $3.80) and I am a bit surprised he is not favourite. He comes through the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot where he was as brave as ever, fighting on very strongly, but just found one better in Courage Mon Ami. They are the two standouts in the race but I do feel back to two miles, hardened/tough campaigner, he’ll be the one standing tallest late.

Danger

3 Courage Mon Ami (Bet Now: $3.20) could be on the path of being Stradivarius 2.0 or at worst, the best stayer in training with Kyprios still out. It was a remarkable win in the Gold Cup given it was just his fourth career start but gee you had to like the way he let down when asked by Frankie and then showed good ticker to fend off Coltrane, who was fighting under pressure. Has to rate highly.

Long Shot

4 Eldar Eldarov (Bet Now: $9.50) is getting towards D-Day for Roger Varian. He did more than enough fresh at York before going to the Gold Cup where he was one of the first beat and very plain in the straight when beaten ten lengths by Courage Mon Ami. Third up so should be hard fit now and his best is clearly good enough to give this a shake.

Race 7. (02:05) Coral Handicap 1609m

Back Me

12 Rowayeh (Bet Now: $6.00) looks the one to beat for mine. Daughter of Dubawi that comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since June 17 at Sandown when getting the 1/1 sit behind the speed before O’Neill angled her into clear air and she went through her gears like a good horse to win impressively. She does tend to react when having a break between runs so that is no concern here and strikes a winnable race.

Danger

6 Stormy Sea (Bet Now: $6.00) is a daughter of Territories for Sir Michael Stoute that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since May 19 at York when on speed throughout and gave a mini kick but couldn’t quite see it through when beaten just over four lengths by Sound Of Heavens. Ryan Moore sticking fresh signals some level of intent so watch the market.

Long Shot

15 Zouzanna (Bet Now: $15.00) is a knockout chance if the track is playing towards those on speed. Dominant all the way winner fresh at Haydock before going to the mile at Yarmouth where she led a field of four and seemed to move well but when asked for the effort, there was nothing there and she was comfortably held, running last. Off the first up performance, that is good enough to be more than competitive here.

Race 8. (02:35) World Pool Handicap 1207m

Back Me

2 Kitai (Bet Now: $3.40) is the straight bat option in the get out. Charlie Johnston trained filly that is looking to make it three wins on the bounce, winning impressively over 1400m at Carlisle two back before proving that was no fluke when heading to Pontefract where she had a suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air and went through her gears like a good horse to win well. No reason why she can’t make it three wins.

Danger

1 Funny Story (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate getting back up to 1200m. She ran over 1000m at Ayr last start where she was near the front but she didn’t have the speed in the legs to sprint when it counted but she stayed on and was solid in defeat behind Makarova. All of her career wins have come at 1200m so getting to that here, more gentle tempo, she’s a definite winning chance.

Long Shot

6 Sophia’s Starlight (Bet Now: $11.00) is a four time winner this prep so with that in mind, she commands respect. She ran a couple of weeks back at Newmarket when near the speed throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through and tired late behind Star Quest. Not sure she has the quality to beat this lot, but can pinch a first four spot at a price.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 2 Kitai

NEXT BEST: Race Four Number 3 Iberian

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 9 Millebosc
